Salud, Kids!
Spice Island...just immerse yourself there...Grenada! You will find yourself surrounded with the deliciousness of spices and tropical jungles! Plus, where else can you drop into an establishment named, Nutmeg World? Not in the Palm Beaches, that's for sure.
Mystical, Grenada. Beautiful and mysterious with friendly people. But, I was a bit curious as to the proper pronunciation of this place as it seems everyone says it in their own special way. Therefore, I was especially attentive to the locals. So, now I try to say it the way they did...GREN-ADA (the ada portion being like the name of a woman). They don't say, Gren-AH-da. Now, you know what I know and when you go there you will have me to thank when you sound like a native islander instead of a tourist. Although I never mind that I'm a tourist. I mean I AM, so why try to hide that fact? Never understood that sort of thinking. Now, I try to represent my country in a favorable fashion, but there is no denying that I'm an American, lurking about away from my homeland.
No matter how you say it, Grenada is a place we would go again and not just for the fabulous nutmeg and vanilla we lugged back to Florida.
This island is lush and provocative. Maybe it's all that overgrown foliage and the exotic aroma of strange and familiar spices floating through the air. Spices aren't just for cooking, they are also for mood changing, or so some would have us believe. You decide for yourself, I've already explained how to say Grenada. I can't do it all for you!
Being a foodie, I do use nutmeg in almost all my savory dishes (I don't watch the Food Network for nothing, kids), so seeing how it is produced and handled was fascinating. However, the real bonus was viewing all the other spices, growing wild in every nook and cranny.
If you must monkey around, why not do it with a monkey who really does reside in the jungle? Grenada isn't a bad place to do so. That's what I say anyway.
My Queen Victoria saga continues. Stay with me!
